Wiccans like Athames and while having a nice, ritual dagger is great, they're finding it far more difficult to get thru airlline security checkpoints let alone accross the boarders thru Customs Officials! Do you want to be detained for carrying a ritual dagger thru heightened airport security? Probably not.
For centuries, the Sorcerers of old carried wands. Yes I know the wand has become popular again thru the Harry Potter books and films but hell I've been using a wand since I got started in all of this back in November 1987 and that's long before Ms. Rowling's young sorcerer appeared on the scene carrying his wand!
In the Red Dragon, a forked wand is depicted as the tool of choice. To obtain one, you rise up before dawn on summer solstice and at sunrise, you take a ritual dagger and with a single cut you lop off the forked branch while reciting a biblical incantation.
That's a nice legend but it does not make it more powerful than what I'm offering you here. The Red Dragon's legend is far more romantic and if you're a romanticist, then by all means go wait until next Summer Solstice to get one!
